Yes, it's time for strawberries again: sweet, juicy and super healthy!

Yes! The strawberry season has officially started and those delicious Dutch summer kicks are on the shelves again. Hmm, how happy we are. Especially because, in addition to being tasty, they are so incredibly healthy.

Strawberries are healthy

There's a good chance we don't have to tell you why a bowl of strawberries is such a nice snack. Because: who doesn't like strawberries? For everyone who doesn't change tack just because of the summer taste, we have five good reasons to put such a sweet summer bunny in your mouth more often. Plus a few tasty recipes to incorporate.

Full of vitamin C

A strawberry contains a lot of vitamin C. For comparison: kiwi is the only fruit that scores even higher. That is not only good for your resistance, healthy hair and beautiful skin. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant and ensures that some harmful substances that can damage cells in your body are neutralized.

With folic acid

Strawberries also contribute to our folic acid intake (vitamin B11). This vitamin is particularly important for pregnant women, as the substance contributes to the healthy growth of unborn children.

Potassium

The fruit is also a source of potassium. Potassium, for example, is important for good blood pressure and regulates the fluid balance in our body.

Full of fiber

Strawberries are easily digestible but are full of fibers, so you feel full after eating it. These fibers also contribute to healthy digestion and ensure that nutrients are properly absorbed.

Slim snack

And the last, but certainly not the least reason to indulge in this delicious summer fruit: strawberries are low in calories. Only 29 calories per hundred grams, to be precise. That makes them one of the slimmest types of fruit. To compare them again with the aforementioned kiwi: each kiwi of approximately 75 grams contains around 50 calories. Funny, because strawberries taste much sweeter. The red fruit owes that taste to starch. Sun converts starch into sugar. And that gives the fruit its sweet taste and summery aroma.
