Sitting still is not an option for this pain

Pain in your joints can be very annoying. Certainly, because there is often no clear cause. Prevention is therefore very difficult. Your feeling may tell you to take a rest and above all not to overload anything, but in reality it is better to keep moving. But what should you choose?

The most common cause of joint pain is overload, osteoarthritis or inflammation.

Move

Keep moving is the most important advice that can be given. It hurts indeed, but it won't hurt as long as you do it in a controlled manner. So don't go straight from zero to one hundred, but build it up. If an inflamed joint is thick, warm and red, your instinct probably tells you to sit comfortably on the couch and wait for it to pass. It is precisely with these types of joints that movement is essential. The structure is essential here.

Build up

For example, start exercising ten minutes a day. Extend this slowly and gradually to half an hour and you will notice that the symptoms decrease. However, not every form of exercise is suitable. It is best to choose a form that does not put extra strain on your joints, such as:

  • Bicycles
  • Swimming
  • Hiking
  • Yoga
  • Walk on a cross trainer

Rheumatism

These forms ensure that you move your joints and are not overloaded. Above all, try to make calm and constant movements. That means that you don't have to do a sprint when you walk on the cross trainer. Hopefully you will get rid of the pain soon. Do the pain last longer than three weeks? Then go see the doctor. A prolonged form of joint pain can in fact indicate rheumatism. Do not postpone this, because timely treatment is very important in the case of rheumatism.
