It is very tempting to add extra salt to dishes to create more flavor. But you shouldn't do that, because ingesting too much salt is harmful to our body.

 

This way you have the risk of kidney diseases and increased blood pressure.

 

1. Retain moisture

Do your fingers look more swollen than normal? Then it is possible that your body is retaining moisture. That can happen if you have eaten too much salt. You can easily solve this by drinking more water, which causes the salt to flush out of your body.

 

2. Getting thirsty

​​​​​​​If you have eaten something salty, such as chips or salted nuts, you may get thirsty. This is because salt extracts moisture from your body; this is how the salt-water balance in the body is disturbed. To bring the balance back to the required level, you need to get more fluid. Preferably do this by drinking water or tea, which works most effectively against fluid deficiency.

 

3. More often to the toilet

​​​​​​​If you get (too) much salt, you may be hungry for unhealthy food, such as sweets and chips. It is also possible that your food will taste bland and lack some extra salt. That problem can be solved by reducing the use of salt. For example, choose a piece of fruit instead of chips.

​​​​​​​Do you increasingly suffer from headaches? That too may be because you take too much salt. Indeed, a study found that of the adults who ingested 3.5 grams of salt per day, almost a third had more headaches than those who only received 1.5 grams of salt per day.

Salt causes the muscles to contract, while potassium, on the other hand, ensures that the muscles relax. 7. Increased blood pressure

How much salt can you use?

​​​​​​​Adults may not consume more than six grams of salt per day. That is about a teaspoon with table salt. The easiest way to get less salt is to eat fresh and healthy food. Namely, most of the salt is in processed food.
