Summary - Diversity
There are big differences between people, but also big similarities. People with a number of the same characteristics can be regarded as a group. When such a group needs extra attention from a healthcare professional, there is a target group in the healthcare sector. Extra attention may be required due to specific health problems. It is also possible that communication requires extra attention. The fact that someone belongs to a specific target group does not necessarily mean that he must be approached and treated differently. After all, they are not just members of that target group: they are further, just like any other, brother or sister, friend or girlfriend, partner, parent, member of an association or sports club, neighbor or neighbor. Knowledge of specific target groups helps assistants to understand patients faster and better. And because of this they can better help these patients and they can deal better with difficult situations in practice. Moreover, care in the Netherlands contributes to an 'inclusive society', a society in which everyone can participate.
