Summary - Anatomy and physiology of the head, neck and chewing system
Dentistry, contrary to what the word indicates, is concerned not only with the health of the teeth, but also with the oral cavity and surrounding tissues. Background knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the head and neck region is necessary. In this chapter, basic knowledge is discussed as a nomenclature of dental elements and other anatomical structures, such as musculature, salivary glands, nervous system and lymphatic system. Insight is given into the operation and function of the aforementioned structures.
