What exactly does the right diet entail? When it comes to limiting the risk of type 2 diabetes, scientists should eat enough whole-grain products. This was discovered by clever minds from the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and the Danish Cancer Society Research Center.
The study investigated the effect of whole-grain products on health. The scientists did this by following 55,000 Danes over a 15-year period. What turned out to be? People who consumed at least fifty grams of whole grains daily had the least chance of developing type 2 diabetes. Women who ingested this amount of whole grain would even be 22 percent less likely to have the disease than the subjects who ingested the least full grains.
Low in carbohydrate
Based on his study, lead researcher Rikard Landberg claims that low-carb diets are not good for your body. “When it comes to whole grain products, the research results are clear,” he says. “Of the many studies with different groups of people around the world, none have shown negative health effects from whole grains.”
More whole grain
A reduced risk of type 2 diabetes is not the only benefit of whole-grain products. They often contain many fibers that ensure optimal functioning of your intestines.
